“Secretary of Homeland Safety Alejandro N. Mayorkas immediately introduced the extension and redesignation of Somalia for Short-term Protected Standing for 18 months, from September 18, 2024, to March 17, 2026, on account of situations in Somalia that forestall people from safely returning.  After consulting interagency companions, Secretary Mayorkas decided that an 18-month extension and redesignation of Somalia for TPS is warranted as a result of situations, which embrace ongoing armed battle and extraordinary and short-term situations, that assist Somalia’s designation are ongoing.
