Federal regulators have opened a probe into roughly 2.6 million Tesla autos after a distant summoning characteristic reportedly led to crashes.
The Nationwide Freeway Site visitors Security Administration introduced the probe on Tuesday, stating it obtained one criticism alleging a crash because of the Really Good Summon characteristic and is investigating reviews of three further crashes.
The “Really Good Summon” characteristic launched in September and permits drivers to remotely summon or transfer their autos to a different location through a button on a cell phone app. Tesla beforehand had a characteristic, referred to as Good Summon, that allowed drivers to maneuver their vehicles into or out of a parking spot. In response to the discover, the Workplace of Defects Investigation has obtained 12 complaints associated to the Good Summon characteristic.
The 4 crashes, according to the notice about the investigation, relate to the Tesla autos failing to detect posts or parked autos, leading to crashes when the Really Good Summon characteristic is on.
