BURNABY, B.C. – Mounties in Burnaby, B.C., say they used undercover officers as a part of a prolonged investigation into a whole bunch of stolen catalytic converters that they are saying had been destined to be despatched to the US.
RCMP say in an announcement that its officers used search warrants on June 1, 2023, at 4 places linked to at least one man, together with his residence, enterprise, and an industrial works yard.
Police say they discovered 439 catalytic converters, that are a part of a car’s exhaust system, and most of these are believed to be stolen, together with 392 prepackaged for cargo to the US.
British Columbia police in quite a few communities have been warning a few spike in catalytic converter thefts as a result of they contain valuable metals that can be lucrative to thieves.
Mounties allege the person ran a cellular steel recycling enterprise, which salvaged autos and legitimately shipped the converters throughout the border in bulk, but in addition purchased and bought stolen materials.

The assertion says the Insurance coverage Company of B.C., the provincial public auto insurance coverage company, estimates that within the first seven months of 2023, catalytic converter theft set off about $8.2 million in claims.
It says in 2022, Burnaby had an estimated 725 catalytic converters reported stolen.
