Fires Noticed on Purple Sea Tanker Drifting With Oil on Board

The UK Navy stated that three fires have been noticed on a ship attacked within the Purple Sea earlier this week.

The Sounion’s crew had been evacuated from the ship up to now few days after the vessel was struck by a number of projectiles.

On Friday, the UK Maritime Commerce Operations, which is part of the nation’s Navy, said that it received a report that three fires had been noticed on the vessel, which was attacked on Wednesday, and that the tanker seemed to be drifting.

The vessel was carrying 150,000 tons — about one million barrels — of Iraqi oil when it was attacked, and the European Union’s naval drive within the area stated it poses each a navigational and environmental danger.
