The California Labor Commissioner’s Workplace reached a $658,948 settlement with a Los Angeles residential care facility.
The settlement was to compensate 34 employees who had been reportedly not paid for all hours labored. The LCO started investigating stories in 2023 that employees at Edgewood Residential Facility had been working as much as 24 hours a day and 7 days per week, barred from leaving work, not paid for all hours together with additional time, pressured to work via relaxation and meal breaks, and got wage statements with out required data comparable to additional time or late meal durations.
The settlement collects wages and damages with $608,948 of the whole payable to the employees for additional time wages, minimal wages, meal interval violations, relaxation interval violations, ready time penalties, liquidated damages and wage assertion violations. The remaining $50,000 is owed in civil penalties payable to the state.
